Qatar and Fiji Forge Rugby Partnership to Boost Game Development

The Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Fiji Rugby Union, aimed at enhancing the technical and administrative aspects of rugby. This collaboration will focus on governance, expertise exchange, and implementing specialized training programs designed to elevate the capabilities of national teams.
Strengthening Regional and International Rugby
The agreement was formalized during a signing ceremony held at the Lusail Hall within the Qatar Olympic Committee headquarters. The document was signed by Yousef Jeham Al Kuwari, President of the Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee, and John Ian, Chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union. The event was attended by HE Siddiq Faizal Riyad Koya, Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Fiji to the State of Qatar, along with various officials and sports enthusiasts.
Under this agreement, both organizations will cooperate in organizing joint training camps and hosting high-quality sporting events and competitions. They will also launch technical and development workshops targeting players, coaches, referees, and administrators, thereby enhancing the growth of rugby at both regional and international levels.
Al Kuwari expressed pride in the partnership, stating, “We are proud to cooperate with one of the world’s most prominent rugby union federations. Through this partnership, we look forward to developing national cadres and opening new horizons for excellence at the international level.” His comments reflect a keen desire to elevate Qatar’s rugby presence on the world stage.
Enhancing Global Sports Collaboration
John Ian highlighted the significance of this initiative, noting that it underscores the Fijian Rugby Federation’s aspiration to expand sports cooperation with Qatar. “This agreement embodies our two countries’ commitment to strengthening sporting relations and forms a basis for launching joint initiatives that contribute to the development of rugby globally,” he remarked.
This strategic partnership aligns with the Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee’s broader vision to establish an effective international partnership network. By engaging with global best practices, the committee aims to create an environment conducive to professional rugby, further solidifying Qatar’s position on the international sporting landscape.
The formalization of this agreement marks a significant advancement in the development of rugby in Qatar, setting the stage for collaborative efforts that promise to enhance the sport’s profile and performance capabilities in the region.
