Qatar and Malaysia Take Center Stage at Islamic Solidarity Sports Assembly
In a significant gathering for international sports, Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buenain, Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), attended the 14th General Assembly of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The assembly coincided with the ongoing 6th Islamic Solidarity Games, which are set to run from November 7 to November 21, featuring participation from 57 countries.
Assembly Highlights and Future Planning
The assembly included notable attendees such as Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani, Director of the QOC Sports Sector. Key discussions focused on the ISSA General Secretariat’s report for 2025, recent updates regarding the organization of the current games, and the approval of proposed amendments to the Association’s Statutes.
Delegates also endorsed the audited financial statements for 2024, enhancing transparency and accountability within the organization. This review is particularly crucial as it sets the financial framework for future events.
Another significant point of discussion was the upcoming 2026 Executive Board elections. The assembly ratified the results of the Athletes’ Commission elections, held just days prior, ensuring that voices from the athlete community are represented in governance.
Future Hosts and Expansion of the Games
A highlight of the meeting was the selection of Malaysia as the host for the 7th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2029. This decision marks a pivotal moment for the games, showcasing their expansion and popularity across the region.
