Qatar National Chess Team Competes at Abu Dhabi Festival

The Qatar national chess team is currently competing in the 31st Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival, a significant event that has attracted over 3,000 players from 82 countries. This annual festival showcases a wide array of competitions, highlighting the global appeal of chess.
Overview of the Festival
Participants at the festival can choose from 27 different competitions, including the prestigious Masters Tournament, Open A and B events, junior competitions, blitz chess, and family team games. This diverse range of categories caters to chess enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels, fostering camaraderie and competitive spirit.
The Qatari delegation includes 12 players, featuring both seasoned competitors and emerging talents. Among the top players is Grandmaster Hussein Aziz, who is participating in the Masters Tournament. Young players such as Layan and Roza Al-Qassabi are also competing in various categories, including the Open A, Open B, Under-16, and Blitz Chess events.
Team Performance and Individual Highlights
Matches are taking place daily, with Qatari players demonstrating strong performances. Grandmaster Hussein Aziz has shown particularly impressive form, contributing to the team’s competitive edge. In the Open A category, Ghadah Al-Khulaifi has displayed remarkable skill, while in the junior section, Hamad Al-Kuwari has surprised spectators with his strategic moves.
The team leader, Hamad Al-Tamimi, emphasized the significance of the festival in preparing players for future international competitions. He expressed pride in the team’s dedication and hard work, noting that such events are crucial for gaining experience and exposure on a larger stage.
