Qatar Sports Investments to Acquire Belgian Club KAS Eupen
Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) has announced its acquisition of Belgian football club KAS Eupen, currently competing in the Challenger Pro League. This move further solidifies QSI’s status as a leading global operator in sports, culture, and entertainment, enhancing its existing portfolio, which includes majority ownership of Paris Saint-Germain and minority ownership of Sporting Clube de Braga.
Details of the Acquisition
The acquisition process was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which is subject to standard regulatory approvals. The agreement facilitates QSI’s immediate takeover of KAS Eupen’s sporting operations. Ultimately, QSI will gain full operational control, encompassing all sporting, commercial, and operational assets of the club.
QSI aims to leverage its expertise to transform KAS Eupen into a competitive force in Belgian football. The group will connect the club with its multi-sport and multi-business model, enhancing performance across various domains.
Strategic Vision for Growth
Acquired from the Aspire Zone Foundation, KAS Eupen has established itself as a reputable team under its previous ownership. The Belgian football market, known for its competitive nature and strong talent development, presents significant opportunities for sustainable growth for the club.
This investment aligns with QSI’s strategic focus on developing sports assets, enhancing athlete pathways, and fostering high-performance environments. The executives at QSI plan to strengthen KAS Eupen’s sporting model and expand its commercial reach. Key objectives include developing the youth academy, upgrading infrastructure, and improving community engagement.
Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Chairman of Qatar Sports Investments, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “Qatar Sports Investments is proud to become the custodian of KAS Eupen and contribute to the development of football in Belgium. With QSI’s global expertise and passion for football, our objective is to build a modern, competitive football and business structure—bringing pride to KAS Eupen supporters and building on the club’s great legacy to date.”
This strategic acquisition marks a significant milestone for both QSI and KAS Eupen, setting the stage for an exciting future in Belgian football.
