Qatari Athletes Gear Up for Glory at Asian Youth Games
Qatari national team runner Idris Abubaker has expressed confidence in the team’s readiness to excel at the upcoming 3rd Asian Youth Games, set to take place in Bahrain from October 22 to 31, 2023. Abubaker emphasized that the athletes are determined to deliver strong performances and enhance Qatar’s reputation in athletics.
During a recent interview, Abubaker highlighted the national team’s commitment to securing a significant number of medals at this prestigious event. His optimism stems from a successful showing at the West Asian Athletic Championships earlier this month, where Qatar’s team dominated the competition, finishing first with a total of 23 medals.
Preparing for Success
Abubaker, who recently earned a medal in the 110m hurdles, noted that each athlete on the national team possesses high technical skills and a strong belief in their potential to win. He pointed out that the focus extends beyond just medals; improving personal records and qualifying for the 2025 World Youth Championships are also key goals for the team.
“Reaching the global stage with strong performances is just as valuable as winning medals,” Abubaker stated. His confidence is backed by the robust support from the Qatar Athletics Federation and the dedicated technical staff, who are all committed to elevating Qatari athletics.
The 18-year-old runner believes that the current generation of Qatari athletes embodies determination, competitiveness, and confidence, which are essential for overcoming challenges in both track and field events. The motivation from their historic victory at the West Asian Athletic Championships will serve as a catalyst for further success at the Asian Youth Games.
Asian Youth Games Overview
A total of 45 countries are expected to participate in the Asian Youth Games, which will feature a diverse range of sports, with athletics being one of the most lucrative disciplines in terms of medal opportunities. As Qatar prepares to showcase its athletic talent on this continental stage, Abubaker and his teammates remain focused on their objectives, aiming to bring pride to their nation.
With the Asian Youth Games on the horizon, the anticipation surrounding the Qatari team is palpable. Abubaker’s commitment and the team’s overall readiness highlight a promising future for athletics in Qatar, as they strive for excellence both regionally and globally.
