QFA Enhances Referee Skills Through Unique Field Experience
The Qatar Football Association’s (QFA) Referees Department recently organized a unique field experience for five promising referees, allowing them to gain valuable insights alongside elite officials during a match in the Doha Bank Stars League. This initiative took place on October 15, 2023, during the match between Al Arabi and Al Rayyan at Al Thumama Stadium, which concluded in a 2-2 draw.
Referees Gain Practical Insights
On the day of the match, the promising referees—Ahmed Al Kaabi, Ezz El Din Al Jarmouzi, Hamad Al Tamimi, Ali Rashid, and Hamad Al Thawadi—arrived early at the stadium. They had the opportunity to meet with the match officials, observing the preparations and the roles assigned within the refereeing team. This hands-on experience was designed to enhance their understanding of match officiating.
A significant component of the field experience was a visit to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) room. Here, the participants received a comprehensive explanation of the VAR process and its implementation during matches. This exposure is particularly beneficial as these referees aspire to officiate at international tournaments where VAR technology will be utilized.
Commitment to Developing Future Referees
The initiative aims to provide promising referees with direct exposure to elite officiating, enabling them to learn from experienced referees about technical aspects, mental and physical preparation, and effective communication strategies. This comprehensive approach is geared towards ensuring the highest level of professionalism in match management.
Present at the event was Jassim Al Hail, Vice Chairman of the Referees Committee and General Supervisor of Promising Referees. His presence underscored the importance of this initiative in developing a skilled generation of referees for the future.
The QFA’s Referees Department remains committed to enhancing the skills and practical experience of referees through such innovative initiatives, ensuring that they are well-prepared for the challenges of officiating at various levels.
