Shadab Khan Returns to Pakistan T20 Squad for Sri Lanka Series
Shadab Khan has been named in Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming three-match Twenty20 International series against Sri Lanka, scheduled for January 7, 9, and 11, 2024. The allrounder returns to the team after recovering from a shoulder injury that sidelined him since June.
The 27-year-old underwent surgery in the United Kingdom and has now regained full fitness. His inclusion comes as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a revised squad, featuring new players due to the absence of several senior team members competing in the Big Bash League in Australia.
Squad Changes and Leadership
According to a PCB statement, the absence of top players such as Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Hasan Ali will be notable, as they are participating in the Australian league. This has created an opportunity for other players to step up, with Salman Ali Agha continuing as captain for the tour.
Additionally, uncapped wicketkeeper-batsman Khawaja Nafay has been included in the squad following a strong performance with Pakistan’s second-string team over the past two years. His selection reflects the PCB’s commitment to developing young talent ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be hosted in India and Sri Lanka in February and March.
Pakistan’s T20 Squad Overview
The complete squad for the Sri Lanka series comprises: Salman Agha (captain), Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Khawaja Nafay, Mohammad Nawaz, Salman Mirza, Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Usman Khan, and Usman Tariq.
As the team prepares for the T20 series, the focus will be on building chemistry and strategy in anticipation of the World Cup. The upcoming matches in Dambulla will serve as crucial opportunities for players to showcase their skills and secure their places in the final World Cup squad.
