Centenarian Frank Rigg Celebrates 100th Birthday with Community

On July 13, 2023, Frank Rigg celebrated his remarkable 100th birthday at the Red Beach Methodist Church in New Zealand. The event attracted approximately 150 family members, friends, and community members who gathered to honour this significant milestone in Frank’s life.
Active Community Leader at 100
Once a dedicated Methodist minister, Frank remains an active figure in his community. He continues to live independently in his two-storey home with his wife, Gwen Rigg, who is 94 years old. According to his daughter, Judith Douch’e, Frank is not only adept with modern technology, regularly using a computer and mobile phone, but he is also still called upon to preach and offer counsel to those in need.
The celebration was filled with joyous musical performances and moving tributes from loved ones. Judith guided attendees through a narrated journey detailing Frank’s rich life history, which was enhanced by a visual PowerPoint presentation. This engaging retrospective showcased the many accomplishments and experiences that have shaped Frank’s century-long life.
Memorable Highlights and Family Bonds
One of the standout moments of the event came when Frank took the stage to lead the Hibiscus Coast Singers in a rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus. This emotional highlight resonated with the audience and served as a testament to Frank’s enduring spirit and musical talent.
As the celebration reached its conclusion, Frank’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren entered the church, each holding a candle to symbolise his 100 years of life. Frank shared words of encouragement with the gathered crowd, inspiring everyone present before leading them in singing some of his favourite hymns.
This centenary celebration not only marked Frank Rigg’s milestone birthday but also highlighted the strong ties of family and community that have supported him throughout his life. His legacy continues to inspire those around him, embodying the spirit of resilience and connection. As Frank steps into his second century, his impact on the lives of others remains profound and lasting.
