Jetstar Launches Daily Christchurch-Hamilton Service, Celebrates 20 Years

Jetstar Airways has launched a new daily service connecting Christchurch and Hamilton, marking a significant expansion in its operations from Christchurch Airport. The inaugural flights began this week, celebrated with a water-arch welcome, as the airline commemorates its 20-year presence in the city and its service to more than 17 million passengers over that period.

Expanding Travel Options

This new route is expected to enhance travel choices for passengers while strengthening connections between the South Island and the Waikato region. Justin Watson, Chief Executive of Christchurch Airport, highlighted the potential benefits of the service. In a statement, he noted that it would not only facilitate business links but also connect families during the busy Christmas season.

Shelley Musk, Head of Jetstar New Zealand, emphasized the importance of Christchurch in the airline’s network. “Not only are we connecting Christchurch and Hamilton for the first time, but we’re also celebrating two decades of flying from Christchurch,” she remarked. The introduction of this route reflects Jetstar’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity.

Flight Details and Future Prospects

The flights will have a duration of approximately 75 minutes, departing from Christchurch at 08:10 and returning from Hamilton at 10:00. With this addition, Jetstar plans to provide over 1.9 million seats annually across six routes at Christchurch Airport.
