Local Farmers Connect Over Brunch in Southland Community Event
On September 27, 2023, the Southland Rural Support Trust hosted a community gathering titled “Brunch on Us” at the Gorge Road Country Club in rural Southland. This informal event aimed to bring together local farmers, growers, and community members to foster connections and provide a relaxing break from their demanding routines.
The brunch welcomed a diverse group of attendees, including dairy workers, farm owners, managers, and their families. As they enjoyed a hearty breakfast, many took the opportunity to catch up with one another, sharing experiences and insights from their work on the farms. The relaxed atmosphere encouraged conversations, allowing participants to bond over shared challenges and successes.
The setting at the Gorge Road Country Club, located west of the Mataura River, was ideal for such a gathering. Attendees arrived in their work attire, with muddy gumboots lined up at the entrance, a testament to the hard work that defines rural life. The event featured a variety of breakfast options, and by noon, all the hash browns had been consumed, reflecting the enthusiasm of the participants.
This gathering served as a reminder of the importance of community support in the agricultural sector. Events like these, organized by local initiatives such as the Southland Rural Support Trust, play a crucial role in fostering resilience among farmers and their families. They provide an essential platform for networking and sharing resources, ultimately strengthening the fabric of rural communities.
As the brunch concluded, many attendees expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to connect with their peers. Such events not only offer a break from the daily grind but also reinforce the sense of solidarity within the farming community, highlighting the importance of mutual support in navigating the challenges of rural life.
