Local Farmers Unite for Community Brunch in Southland

On March 27, 2024, the Southland Rural Support Trust hosted a community brunch event at the Gorge Road Country Club, inviting local farmers, growers, and community members to gather and connect. The informal “Brunch on us” occasion drew participants from across the rural Southland region, providing a much-needed break for those working in agriculture.
A Community Gathering in Rural Southland
Held in a scenic area west of the Mataura River, the brunch served as a welcoming space for dairy workers, farm owners, and managers to enjoy a hearty breakfast. Many attendees brought their children along, fostering a family-friendly atmosphere. Throughout the event, participants shared experiences and updates from their farms, reinforcing community ties.
As the morning progressed, the energy in the room reflected a strong sense of camaraderie. Attendees mingled while enjoying a variety of breakfast options, including freshly cooked hash browns, which quickly became a popular choice. By noon, the last of the hash browns had been consumed, highlighting the event’s appeal among the local agricultural workforce.
Fostering Community Connections
The event offered a unique opportunity for rural workers to step away from their demanding schedules. With muddy gumboots lined up at the entrance, it was evident that the brunch provided a welcome respite from the rigors of daily farm life. Many participants expressed gratitude for the initiative, recognizing its importance in building connections within the farming community.
The Southland Rural Support Trust aims to support local farmers and promote community well-being through events like this. By creating spaces for dialogue and connection, the organization plays a vital role in addressing the challenges faced by rural workers. The success of the brunch underscores the importance of community support and engagement in rural areas.
As the brunch concluded, attendees left with full stomachs and renewed connections, eager to continue supporting one another in their agricultural endeavors. Events like “Brunch on us” not only nourish the body but also strengthen the bonds that hold communities together.
