Masterton Christmas Fair Thrives with Over 100 Stallholders
The second annual Masterton Christmas Fair successfully attracted a large crowd and numerous stallholders, confirming the event’s popularity. Held on December 2, 2023, along Queen Street in Masterton, the fair featured over 100 stall units from Jackson Street to Park Street. Organized by the Masterton South Rotary Club, the event showcased a vibrant array of local products and community spirit.
Lead organizer Warwick Dean expressed satisfaction with this year’s turnout, noting that it surpassed expectations. “It was a fantastic day for both punters and stallholders,” Dean stated, highlighting the lively atmosphere, particularly during peak hours when the fair was notably crowded.
A survey conducted during the event revealed that more than two-thirds of attendees were local residents, while approximately 11% came from rural areas and 6% from outside the Wairarapa region. This demographic mix underscores the fair’s appeal beyond just the Masterton community.
The stalls offered a diverse selection of quality products, providing visitors with a wide range of choices for holiday shopping. Dean emphasized the fair’s role as a community initiative, stating that it serves not only as a platform for local vendors but also as an opportunity for club members to engage in meaningful activities that benefit the community.
In addition to the marketplace, the fair featured a stage for live music performances and a designated area for food vendors. This combination created a festive environment that encouraged socializing and celebration among attendees. The Wairarapa Boxing Academy contributed to the event’s sustainability efforts by assisting with recycling initiatives, further enhancing the fair’s community impact.
Looking ahead, organizers plan to schedule the next Masterton Christmas Fair for the second weekend of December next year. Dean’s enthusiasm for future events suggests a commitment to fostering a strong local tradition that brings people together, supports local businesses, and raises funds for charitable causes.
As the fair concluded, it left a lasting impression on visitors and participants alike, solidifying its place as a key highlight in Masterton’s annual calendar. The success of the event reflects the dedication of the Masterton South Rotary Club and the support of the community, ensuring that the spirit of Christmas continues to thrive in the region.
