Mysuru Claims Guinness Record with Stunning 2,983 Drone Show

Mysuru has set a remarkable Guinness World Record with its captivating drone show featuring an impressive 2,983 drones. This event unfolded on September 28, 2023, at the Torchlight Parade Grounds in Bannimantap, forming part of the annual Dasara celebrations. The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) orchestrated this extraordinary display, showcasing a spectacular aerial representation of a tiger.
Munigopal Raju, the Managing Director of CESC, explained that the decision to increase the number of drones from 1,500 in 2022 to nearly 3,000 this year aimed to enhance the overall experience for attendees. He emphasized the thorough planning behind the record attempt, which adhered to stringent protocols, including certification by a London-based team and validation by aeronautical engineers, auditors, and legal experts.
“Our goal was to surpass the previous record of 1,985 drones that formed a tiger. We wanted to create our national animal using 3,000 drones—something that had never been attempted before,” Mr. Raju stated. The initial trial demonstration occurred on September 28, followed by another on September 29, in preparation for the main shows scheduled for October 1 and 2.
The audience was entranced as the drones illuminated the Mysuru sky with a variety of vivid images. These included the solar system, a world map, an Indian soldier, and cultural symbols like a peacock, an eagle, and a dancing Lord Krishna. Additionally, depictions of ‘Mother Cauvery’, the Ambari elephant, and Goddess Chamundeshwari added to the spectacle. The show even featured a map of Karnataka, highlighting notable political figures such as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, along with the state’s five guarantee schemes.
Mr. Raju noted that selecting the visuals was a meticulous process, given that each drone had limited power, allowing for only 10 to 12 image transitions. The success of the event was attributed to the collaboration of nearly 100 professionals from a private drone company and around 200 staff members from CESC.
Before the drone show commenced, attendees were treated to a lively performance by playback singer Kunal Ganjawala and his troupe, setting an upbeat tone for the evening. The combination of music and the stunning drone display created an unforgettable experience for all present, marking a significant achievement for Mysuru and its Dasara festivities.
This record-setting event not only highlights the city’s innovative spirit but also reinforces its status as a hub for cultural celebrations, bringing together technology and tradition in a spectacular fashion.
