New Zealand Woman’s Weekly Seeks New Editor as McLachlan Transitions
New Zealand’s historic publication, the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly, is actively searching for a new editor following the announcement that Marilynn McLachlan will step down after five years in the role. McLachlan is set to transition into a new position as the magazine’s Lifestyle Editor. The recruitment process for her successor has commenced, and McLachlan will continue in her current position until the new editor is appointed.
The New Zealand Woman’s Weekly has a rich history that dates back to its first publication on December 8, 1932. At its peak in the mid-1980s, the magazine enjoyed a circulation of approximately 250,000 copies per week. This longstanding publication has played a significant role in New Zealand’s media landscape, providing insights and stories relevant to women across the country.
In 2020, the magazine faced challenges during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a temporary hiatus when its then-owner, Bauer, ceased operations in New Zealand. However, the magazine was revitalized later that year after being acquired by Mercury Capital, now known as Are Media. Alongside the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly, Are Media also owns other notable publications, including the NZ Listener and Woman’s Day.
Throughout its history, the magazine has seen a variety of editors, including prominent writers Wendyl Nissen and Nicky Pellegrino, who have contributed to its evolution and relevance in the ever-changing media landscape.
As the search for a new editor progresses, the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly remains committed to its mission of connecting with readers and delivering engaging content. The transition marks a new chapter for the magazine, which continues to adapt to the needs and interests of its audience.
