Pahiatua Woman Found Dead; Son Sought by Police in Case
The body of Karen Gilbert-Palmer, a 74-year-old woman from Pahiatua, was discovered in her home on October 15, 2023. Authorities are currently searching for her son, Jeremy Robertson, in connection with her death. Family members describe Gilbert-Palmer as a dedicated caregiver, particularly to her son, who is now wanted by police.
According to relatives, Gilbert-Palmer was deeply committed to her family. Andrea Randell Todd, one of her cousins visiting from the United States, expressed her shock at the tragedy. Todd shared that Gilbert-Palmer was a “favourite cousin” and highlighted her devotion to family life. She noted that Gilbert-Palmer was unable to attend a family celebration for Todd’s mother’s 100th birthday, which made the news of her death even more distressing.
Just a day before Gilbert-Palmer’s death, Todd mailed her a lipstick from the US, underscoring their close relationship. “It was all just so shocking and unbelievable,” Todd remarked, reflecting on the sudden loss.
Gilbert-Palmer had dedicated much of her life to caring for her family, including her parents as they aged. “She was very devoted to her parents and her family and her dog. She loved her animals,” Todd added. Gilbert-Palmer’s daughter, who resides in Australia, has since traveled to New Zealand to support the family during this difficult time.
As the investigation into Gilbert-Palmer’s death continues, Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thompson confirmed that police are focused on locating Robertson, who is in his 50s and described as having a solid build. “We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen Jeremy in the Tarawera Rd, Rotorua area from October 15,” he stated.
Authorities are also seeking information about a red, late-model Mitsubishi ASX VRX station wagon, registration QGU91, that may be connected to the case. Police advise that anyone who sees Robertson should not approach him but rather call emergency services at 111 immediately. Non-urgent information can be relayed through the 105 service, referencing file number 251015/6286. Additionally, tips can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 0800 555 111.
The community mourns the loss of a woman remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, as the investigation continues to unfold.
