Spring Flower Show to Bloom at West Taieri Rugby Club

The annual Spring Flower Show is set to take place on September 5, 2024, at the West Taieri Rugby Club, organized by the Outram Garden Club. This event has become a cherished community tradition over the past five years, drawing gardeners and flower enthusiasts from across the city.
Event convener Denise Chaplin noted that the show has generated significant interest, even though it is occurring earlier in the season than in previous years. “We brought the date forward by a week, as a lot of people’s blooms were finishing at the time of last year’s show,” Mrs. Chaplin explained. “Now, with the cold weather, many flowers are only just beginning to bloom, but I believe there will still be plenty of lovely spring flowers for people to enjoy.”
This year’s show invites entries from anyone interested, promising a diverse array of floral displays. Among the participants will likely be art exhibits from children at Outram School, as well as floral arrangements from residents of local retirement villages and keen gardeners from the broader Taieri area.
Many local gardens are already showcasing vibrant blooms, including daffodils, narcissi, rhododendrons, camellias, hellebores, polyanthus, and hyacinths. With the arrival of sunny days, more flowers are expected to reach full bloom just in time for the event.
“The show has always had great support from the whole community in the past, so we are really hoping that everyone gets behind it again,” Mrs. Chaplin added, indicating the enthusiasm that typically surrounds this local celebration.
The Outram Garden Club Spring Flower Show will be open to the public from 1 PM to 5 PM at the West Taieri Rugby Club, located at 201 Formby Street, Outram. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own bags for purchases. For inquiries, interested individuals can contact Denise at 027 4861-226 or Pam at 021 1223-383.
This event not only highlights the beauty of spring flowers but also fosters community spirit and engagement through the shared love of gardening.
