Students Shine on the Runway for Arts Fundraiser in Dunedin
Students from John McGlashan College will take to the runway on March 14, 2024, showcasing the latest apparel from local designers and boutiques during their arts fundraiser, Fashion @ McGlashan. This event promises to combine creativity and community spirit, with proceeds directed towards enhancing the school’s arts programs and facilities.
The fashion show will feature models wearing clothing from prominent local boutiques, including Plume, Charmaine Reveley, and Repertoire. The runway event is designed not only to highlight the talents of Dunedin’s fashion scene but also to engage students in the arts, fostering a sense of collaboration and support.
Year 13 student Ben Eckhoff expressed his excitement about participating in the event. With prior experience performing on stage through Theatrefest, he feels at ease with the prospect of walking down a ramp. “It’s the same thing really. You’re acting down a runway except just in different costumes,” Eckhoff noted. Although he describes himself as not being the most fashionable individual, he enjoys dressing well, often opting for baggy jeans and a hoodie complemented by his favorite hat.
Eckhoff has found the preparation process both enjoyable and rewarding. He appreciates the opportunity to give back to the arts after being involved in various school productions. The runway experience not only allows him to express himself creatively but also supports a cause that enhances the school’s artistic offerings.
As anticipation builds for the show, attendees can look forward to an evening filled with talent and creativity. The event will take place in the school’s chapel, starting at 6:30 PM. This initiative reflects the commitment of John McGlashan College to enrich the cultural landscape of the local community while providing students with valuable experiences in the arts.
In summary, Fashion @ McGlashan aims to blend fashion with philanthropy, nurturing the next generation of artists and performers in Dunedin.
