Dunedin Council Elections: Calvert and Laws Secure Re-election

In the recent Dunedin council elections, Hilary Calvert has secured her return to the council, alongside fellow incumbents Andrew Noone and chairwoman Gretchen Robertson. As of the latest progress results, which accounted for 85% of the votes, newcomer Chanel Gardner and incumbent Alan Somerville from the Green Party also appear poised to join the council. Notably, incumbents Elliot Weir and Tim Mepham are projected to be voted out, with results indicating a close race between Cr Somerville and Mx Weir.

Michael Laws has comfortably retained his seat in the Dunstan constituency, joined by incumbent Gary Kelliher and Matt Hollyer, alongside former Central Otago district deputy mayor Neil Gillespie. All three men were part of the fiscally conservative Vision Otago team ticket, which has made significant gains in this election cycle. Although Carmen Hope was also part of this ticket, she did not secure a position in the Molyneux ward.

In the Molyneux ward, Act candidate Robbie Byars is leading in progress results, while Kate Wilson is set for re-election. Incumbent Lloyd McCall will not continue in the role, as his votes did not meet the threshold for retention.

Kevin Malcolm has successfully retained his seat in the Moeraki ward. It is important to note that the council has indicated these progress results do not yet include special votes and those returned on election day. The final outcome may change as all voting papers are counted.
