Dunedin Mourns Former Mayor Jules Radich at Memorial Service
Former Dunedin mayor Jules Radich passed away on March 10, 2024, at the age of 70, following a heart attack. His death occurred just one day after he experienced a sudden health crisis. Mr. Radich served as the city’s mayor from 2022 until the recent election, where he lost the mayoralty but continued to contribute to the Dunedin City Council as a councillor.
The memorial service for Mr. Radich took place at 14:00 on Friday. Following the service, a private cremation was scheduled, according to his death notice. His family expressed gratitude towards the medical team at Dunedin Hospital’s intensive care unit for their efforts during his final moments.
Mr. Radich’s political career spanned several years. He was a city councillor from 2019 to 2022 before taking on the role of mayor. His contributions to local governance were recognized by both colleagues and community members. Despite losing the mayoral position, his commitment to serving Dunedin remained evident through his continued role on the council.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Radich’s family requested that donations be made to St John, a charity known for its ambulance services and community support. This request reflects his dedication to public service and the well-being of the community he served.
The outpouring of condolences demonstrates the impact Mr. Radich had on the lives of many in Dunedin. His legacy will be remembered by those who worked alongside him and the residents he represented throughout his time in office.
