New Health Platform Transforms Blood Test Insights for Wellness

Understanding the underlying causes of fatigue and low mood can be challenging. A new health technology platform called Marko, developed in New Zealand by clinical nutritionist Vinka Wong and co-founder Sheree Hart, aims to provide clarity by transforming blood test results into personalised wellness plans. This innovative approach seeks to address the common feelings of being “flat” or overwhelmed that many individuals experience.
The platform focuses on more than just detecting disease; it offers insights into optimal health. Traditional blood tests often rely on broad normal ranges, which may overlook subtle imbalances that contribute to feelings of malaise. Marko assesses over thirty blood markers, using research-based ranges that reflect optimal functioning rather than merely identifying illness. “It’s about viewing your health through a new lens,” Wong explains.
Many individuals report ongoing fatigue and low mood despite receiving normal test results. Wong cites a case study of a woman in her forties who had long been told her thyroid function was normal. After analysing her blood work through the lens of optimisation, it became apparent her thyroid was not operating at its best. With targeted lifestyle changes based on her results, she experienced significant improvements in her energy levels within weeks.
The platform integrates insights from various health practitioners, including general practitioners, nutritionists, and naturopaths, to create a user-friendly system. This system translates complex lab data into actionable guidance tailored to individuals’ specific health needs. Wong emphasises the importance of personalised advice, stating, “A one-size-fits-all approach rarely works,” especially in a landscape flooded with generic health advice.
Marko also highlights common nutrient deficiencies among users. Wong notes that many individuals in New Zealand present low levels of essential nutrients like B12, iron, folate, and vitamin D. These deficiencies are often linked to dietary choices that prioritise convenience over nutritional density. “We’re consuming plenty, but not necessarily absorbing or utilising what our bodies actually need to thrive,” she shares.
The platform allows users to focus on specific health areas such as mental health, inflammation, metabolism, and gut health. Wong notes an increasing concern with metabolic health, including elevated blood sugars and cholesterol markers. When users see their own data, they often feel motivated to make impactful changes.
The mission of Marko extends beyond individual health. Wong believes that a healthier society begins with people taking accountability for their wellbeing. “By giving people access to clear, actionable knowledge, we can help reduce unnecessary appointments and ensure healthcare resources are used where they’re truly needed,” she says.
While Marko does not provide diagnoses and encourages users to seek medical care when necessary, it offers one-on-one consultations for those seeking further guidance. Wong envisions this platform as part of a broader health ecosystem aimed at empowering individuals to take control of their health.
“Ultimately, our goal is to empower as many people as possible to take control of their health and feel remarkable doing it,” Wong concludes. With its innovative approach to blood testing and personalised wellness plans, Marko is set to change how individuals view and manage their health, paving the way for a more informed and proactive approach to wellbeing.
