Anthony Joshua Pays Tribute to Friends Killed in Car Crash
Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua publicly expressed his condolences for the families of his friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, who tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Nigeria. This marked Joshua’s first social media post since the incident, where he shared heartfelt photographs of himself comforting the victims’ relatives, alongside his own mother. In his post, Joshua referenced the phrase “My Brothers Keeper,” a biblical quote from Genesis 4:9, highlighting the moral obligation to support one another during difficult times.
Details of the Fatal Accident
The accident occurred on March 11, 2024, when Joshua was a passenger in a Lexus SUV driven by Kayode Adeniyi. The vehicle collided with a stationary truck on a major expressway near Lagos. Reports suggest that Joshua narrowly escaped serious injury by changing seats shortly before the crash. The incident has sparked significant media attention, particularly due to the high profile of the boxer involved.
Adeniyi, the 47-year-old driver, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and operating a vehicle without a valid licence. He appeared at Sagamu Magistrates’ Court on March 15, where he denied all charges, claiming that the brakes on the vehicle had failed at the time of the accident.
Joshua’s Return to the UK
After the tragic event, Joshua returned to the UK, where he is expected to attend the funerals for Ghami and Ayodele. The services are scheduled to take place at a mosque in London today. The boxer’s emotional tribute on social media has resonated with fans and the public alike, demonstrating his commitment to supporting his friends’ families during this devastating time.
As the investigation into the crash continues, the boxing community and fans around the world are rallying in support of Joshua and the families affected by this tragedy. The loss of Ghami and Ayodele has left a profound impact, emphasizing the need for road safety awareness, especially in high-traffic areas.
