Black Ferns Celebrate Win Over Spain as Injured Trio Cleared

The Black Ferns have emerged victorious in their opening match of the Rugby World Cup, defeating Spain with a score of 54-8. Following the match, the team received positive news regarding three players who had recently left the field due to injuries. Kaipo Olsen-Baker, Ayesha Leti-I’iga, and Amy du Plessis will remain with the squad as they prepare for their next match against Japan.
Olsen-Baker, a loose forward, was stretchered off during the second half after suffering a lower leg injury. She had previously been recovering from a foot injury. Initial assessments indicated that she has not sustained an ankle fracture, but she will undergo further observation to establish her return to play timeline.
A similar situation pertains to Leti-I’iga and du Plessis. Both players left the match with injuries—Leti-I’iga with an ankle issue and du Plessis with a shoulder concern. Each will also receive additional assessments to determine their pathways back to the field.
As the team travels to Exeter for their upcoming test against Japan on March 15, 2024, the health of these key players remains a priority. The Black Ferns will seek to build on their strong performance from the opening match while managing the fitness of their squad.
This victory marks a promising start for the Black Ferns in the tournament, and the team will be eager to maintain momentum as they face Japan next.
