Black Foils Struggle in Switzerland, Drop from Leaderboard

The New Zealand SailGP team, known as the Black Foils, faced a challenging weekend at the inaugural SailGP event in Switzerland, finishing in eighth place. This result marks the team’s second worst finish this year, having previously secured the same position in Sydney in February.
Competing on Lake Geneva, the Black Foils encountered extremely light wind conditions that hindered their performance. The team began the second day of the competition with hopes of securing a spot in the top three. However, their aspirations were dashed after finishing fifth in one race and tenth in another. This disappointing outcome resulted in a significant drop on the leaderboard during an intensely competitive event.
Despite demonstrating moments of brilliance earlier in the season, the Black Foils have struggled with consistency. Their performances have been a mix of high and low finishes, leaving them unable to maintain a steady grip on the top of the leaderboard. The team’s fluctuating results illustrate the unpredictable nature of the global foiling circuit, where conditions and competition can change rapidly.
As the season progresses, the Black Foils will need to regroup and strategize to improve their standings. The upcoming events present an opportunity for the team to showcase their skills and reclaim their position among the best in the league. With next races on the horizon, the focus will be on enhancing their performance and securing vital points as they aim for a stronger finish this season.
