Filda Vui Poised for Silver Ferns Selection Against South Africa

The Northern Mystics shooter, Filda Vui, is emerging as a strong contender for the Silver Ferns squad ahead of the upcoming Taini Jamison Trophy matches against South Africa. This anticipated selection comes after Ameliaranne Ekenasio, the current captain, announced her decision to step down and declared herself unavailable for international tests in 2025, citing a need for rest.
Vui’s confidence stems from her impressive performance in the ANZ Premiership, where she has established herself as the competition’s leading two-point shooter. She successfully converted 30 from 51 attempts, achieving an accuracy rate of 58.8%. Her ability to perform under pressure has positioned her as a key player for the Mystics and now, potentially, for the national team.
Anticipation Builds for Squad Announcement
Coach Dame Noeline Taurua is set to announce the Silver Ferns squad, consisting of 16 to 18 players, on August 11. With Ekenasio stepping back, Vui’s entry into the team appears increasingly likely, especially given her recent performances and the need for a capable replacement in the goal attack position.
The Taini Jamison Trophy series is scheduled for late September, allowing Vui a chance to showcase her skills on an international stage. Her selection would not only mark a significant milestone in her career but also strengthen the Silver Ferns as they prepare to face a formidable South African side.
Vui’s rise in the sport reflects the depth of talent within the New Zealand netball framework, and her potential selection highlights the ongoing evolution of the Silver Ferns. As the team gears up for the upcoming competition, all eyes will be on the squad announcement and Vui’s journey into international netball.
