Howick College’s Premier 1 netball team has achieved a remarkable feat by winning the Auckland Premier Netball Tournament title for the second consecutive year. The team completed an impressive season, finishing with a record of 13 victories and no losses, including a perfect performance in the recent Combined Points tournament.

Their successful campaign culminated in a thrilling final against Mount Albert Grammar School, where Howick secured a 37-30 victory. Director of netball and Premier coach, Tania Tuinukuafe, expressed her pride in the team’s performance, stating, “Our Premier team had an outstanding game. The focus was to be performance-driven and to execute quality netball, and they achieved exactly that.”

The team’s dedication throughout the year has been commendable. Tuinukuafe noted that the players’ hard work exceeded her expectations. “They have put in an immense amount of work throughout the year, and the results have exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t be prouder,” she added.

Success Across All Grades

Howick College’s triumphs were not limited to the Premier level. The 10A netball team also enjoyed success, winning the year 10 competition with a decisive 44-29 victory over Avondale College in their last match of the season. They remained undefeated in the Combined Points Tournament as well.

Tuinukuafe remarked on the significance of the year 10 team’s accomplishments, saying, “Our year 10s are achieving high results and building a strong reputation in Auckland netball, and their performance this season has been outstanding.”

In addition to the year 10s, the 9A team clinched the year 9 Auckland title, defeating Saint Kentigern College 37-23 in their final match. This victory marked a clean sweep of championships from year 9 to the Premier level, showcasing the depth of talent at Howick College.

Reflecting on the achievements of the younger players, Tuinukuafe emphasized their importance for the future of the program: “These younger players are our future, and it looks strong and promising both on and off the court.”

Looking Ahead

With titles across all levels, Howick College netball has demonstrated its strength and depth in the sport. The focus now shifts to the upcoming Upper North Island Secondary Schools (UNISS) tournament, where the Premier 1 squad aims to defend their regional crown. The team’s recent successes have generated excitement and optimism as they prepare for this next challenge.

As the netball community looks on, Howick College continues to set a high standard, proving that hard work and dedication can lead to remarkable achievements on the court.
