Kiwi Golfer Kobori Climbs to Second at British Masters

Kazuma Kobori, a rising star in professional golf, finished in second place at the British Masters held at The Belfry. The 23-year-old from Rangiora made a remarkable ascent on the final day, posting a superb score of seven-under-par 65. His impressive performance included an eagle and four birdies during the last six holes, which set the clubhouse target at 15 under par.
Kobori, who was just a few centimetres away from an ace on the par-three seventh hole, demonstrated exceptional skill and composure under pressure. Despite his strong showing, he ultimately fell short of victory, with Swedish golfer Alex Noren claiming the title by a narrow margin of one shot. Kobori’s final score tied him with Nicolai Hojgaard from Denmark, marking a significant achievement in his career.
Financial Impact of Performance
With this latest result, Kobori has earned over $521,000 in prize money from the tournament, contributing to a total of $1,268,000 this year. His earnings reflect a successful season, including a notable third-place finish at the BMW International in July 2023, where he secured $285,000. This trajectory has propelled him to the No. 23 spot in the World Tour rankings.
Kobori’s success continues to put him on the map as a prominent figure in the golfing world. His remarkable performance at the British Masters demonstrates not only his talent but also his potential for future victories.
Fellow New Zealander Daniel Hillier, who emerged victorious at the British Masters in 2023, had a different experience this year, missing the cut and finishing tied for 83rd. Hillier’s earlier accomplishments highlight the competitive nature of the tournament and the challenges faced by professional golfers.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Kobori, whose skill and determination suggest that he is poised for further achievements on the international stage.
