LIV Golf Announces Major Format Change to 72-Hole Events in 2026
LIV Golf has revealed a significant transformation in its tournament format, shifting from a three-day, 54-hole competition to a four-round, 72-hole format beginning in the 2026 season. This change marks a notable evolution for the league, which has traditionally held events from Friday to Sunday.
Starting in 2026, all LIV Golf tournaments will take place over four days, typically commencing on Thursday of event weeks. The decision aims to enhance the competitive experience for players and offer a richer viewing experience for fans.
Scott O’Neil, CEO of LIV Golf, expressed enthusiasm about the format change, stating, “As we enter our fourth season, the move to 72 holes marks a pivotal new chapter for LIV Golf that strengthens our league, challenges our elite field of players, and delivers more of the world-class golf, energy, innovation and access that our global audience wants.”
This announcement comes as Danny Lee and Ben Campbell, both esteemed participants in the 2025 season, are eager to secure their positions for the upcoming season. Their team affiliations for 2026 have yet to be confirmed, adding an element of anticipation as the new format approaches.
The expansion to a four-round format aligns LIV Golf more closely with traditional professional golf, where 72-hole events have long been the standard. By making this adjustment, LIV Golf aims to attract a broader audience while also challenging its players more rigorously over an extended period.
As the golf community prepares for this transition, the league’s commitment to innovation and player engagement remains evident. The 2026 season is poised to be an exciting chapter for LIV Golf, as it continues to carve out its niche in the competitive landscape of professional golf.
Fans and players alike are watching closely, eager to see how this new format will impact the dynamics of competition and the overall experience of the sport. With this strategic shift, LIV Golf is positioning itself for future growth and increased visibility in the global sports arena.
