New Zealand Breakers Fall Short Against Perth Wildcats at Home
The New Zealand Breakers faced a significant setback on March 15, 2024, losing to the Perth Wildcats 99-91 in an Australia NBL match held in Auckland. This defeat marks a troubling trend for the Breakers, who have struggled at home throughout the season.
The game started positively for the Breakers, who established an early lead. However, the Wildcats quickly took control, extending their advantage to as much as 11 points. Despite the setback, the Breakers mounted a strong comeback and briefly regained the lead with four minutes left on the clock. Yet, the Wildcats proved resilient, reasserting their dominance and securing the victory.
This loss represents the third time this season that the Wildcats have defeated the Breakers. With the current record at 8-14, the Breakers have now lost six of their ten home games during the 2025/26 campaign. They find themselves three wins behind the Tasmania JackJumpers, who currently hold the final playoff position with only 11 games remaining in the regular season.
Kristian Doolittle led the Wildcats with a game-high 21 points, showcasing his scoring ability throughout the contest. Dylan Windler contributed significantly as well, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds. For the Breakers, Sam Mennenga was the standout performer, scoring 19 points. Carlin Davison added 14 points off the bench, while star guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright recorded 10 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, although he also had five turnovers.
This game adds another layer of pressure on the Breakers as they look to turn their season around. With playoff ambitions hanging in the balance, they will need to address their home performance and regain consistency as they head into the final stretch of the season. The team will undoubtedly reflect on this latest defeat as they prepare for upcoming matches, hoping to improve their standings in the competitive Australia NBL landscape.
