The Firebirds posted a total of 194 for 3 from their 20 overs, thanks in large part to captain Nick Kelly, who scored an impressive unbeaten 95 runs off 58 balls.

This match was pivotal for the Firebirds, who had endured a disappointing run of defeats against the Central Stags and Auckland Aces. Kelly’s performance not only marked his highest T20 score in his 91st career match but also provided a much-needed boost for the team as they prepare for a rematch against the Aces in Auckland on January 5.

Kelly, who has previously represented New Zealand in three One Day Internationals, took the opportunity to shine against his former team. He formed a solid partnership with Tim Robinson, who contributed 54 runs off 30 balls, including four sixes. Their partnership of 92 runs became a cornerstone for the Firebirds after the early dismissal of Tom Blundell.
