Sevu Reece to Join Perpignan After 2026 Super Rugby Season
All Blacks’ wing Sevu Reece has secured a move to French club Perpignan, concluding his tenure with the Crusaders at the end of the 2026 Super Rugby season. Reece, who has made 37 test appearances for New Zealand, holds the record as Super Rugby’s all-time leading try scorer with 66 tries. His contract with Perpignan is reportedly a three-year agreement, contingent upon the club maintaining its status in the Top 14 league.
Reece has been a pivotal player for the Crusaders since debuting in 2019. His outstanding performances during his first season earned him a call-up to the All Blacks. As he prepares to transition to French rugby, Reece remains under contract with both New Zealand Rugby and the Crusaders through the entirety of 2026.
Impact on the Crusaders
Crusaders head coach Rob Penney emphasized Reece’s significant contribution to the team and the wider community. “The amount of growth Sevu has had in his time in the red and black since 2019 is a credit to his character,” Penney stated. He highlighted Reece’s achievements, including his role in securing six titles for the Crusaders and his upcoming milestone of earning 100 caps for the club this season.
Reflecting on his time with the Crusaders, Reece expressed deep gratitude. “This club has given me everything, and I will forever be grateful for all the opportunities I have had in the red and black,” he said. He acknowledged the friendships and connections he has built during his tenure, emphasizing that the people associated with the Crusaders make the club unique.
A New Chapter in France
As he looks towards his future, Reece described the decision to leave as bittersweet. “It’s a bittersweet time, and this hasn’t been an easy decision at all, but my family and I are really excited for this next adventure together in France,” he remarked. He is committed to finishing his time with the Crusaders on a high note, expressing his hope to secure one final title before his departure. Reece specifically noted the excitement of achieving this under the roof of the new stadium.
Beyond his athletic commitments, Reece has also been a dedicated ambassador for the Child Cancer Foundation, actively participating in community initiatives. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in his career, but also the start of an exciting new journey in French rugby.
As the 2026 season approaches, fans and teammates alike will be eager to see how Reece concludes his time with the Crusaders, solidifying a legacy that has already made a lasting impact on the club and its supporters.
