Super Rugby Pacific Teams Unveil Jerseys Ahead of 2026 Season
The Super Rugby Pacific teams have revealed their new jersey designs in anticipation of the upcoming 2026 season, which marks the 30th anniversary of the original Super 12 competition. The five original New Zealand teams showcased their kits, generating excitement among fans as they pay homage to the league’s rich history.
Auckland Blues Honor Their Legacy
The Auckland Blues introduced a home jersey that closely resembles their iconic design from the 1996 season, a year that saw them claim the inaugural Super 12 title. This nostalgic design is likely to resonate well with supporters. In contrast, their away jersey features a more controversial design that some fans liken to cricket attire, sparking debate on social media regarding its suitability for rugby.
Mixed Reactions from Other Teams
The Chiefs opted for a subtle approach, maintaining a similar look to their previous season’s jerseys. This decision has drawn criticism, as many expected a more pronounced throwback design. They previously released a ’96 throwback jersey in 2019, which may explain their current choice.
The Hurricanes, known for their unique identity, embraced nostalgia with their throwback jerseys. Despite a challenging start in the Super 12 with only three wins, their original design evokes memories of Christian Cullen‘s legendary try at the Sydney Football Stadium. Their away jersey features a reversed color scheme, reminiscent of the last time they wore it when they clinched their only title.
The Crusaders faced a different challenge, as they finished last in the Super 12’s inaugural season. Their throwback jersey serves as the official third strip, offering a sleek design that maintains their winning reputation. The home and away jerseys feature a motif inspired by the Southern Alps and integrate their sponsor’s logo seamlessly into the overall look.
The Highlanders made a strong statement with their 2026 jersey launch, calling upon rugby legends Jeff Wilson and Ben Smith for the unveiling. Their design mirrors that of the inaugural season, utilizing the same dark blue shade from their 2015 title-winning kit. Feedback on social media suggests that this design has already garnered a positive response from fans, setting high expectations for the upcoming season.
As the Super Rugby Pacific prepares for the February 2026 kickoff, the unveiling of these jerseys marks an important step in celebrating the league’s history while also looking forward to future successes. The designs reflect a combination of nostalgia and innovation, capturing the spirit of the teams and their loyal supporters.
