Titus Proctor Claims WBC Muay Thai World Title in Historic Win
Kickboxer Titus Proctor has achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the WBC Muay Thai World Super Middleweight title in a dramatic bout against England’s Daniel Bonner at Mt Maunganui over the weekend. At just 21 years old, Proctor becomes the first male fighter from New Zealand to hold this prestigious title.
In what many considered a significant challenge, Proctor faced Bonner, who was not only ranked highly but also boasted an impressive record of 49 fights, including 41 wins and now 9 losses. Proctor’s victory marks his second world title, adding to his growing reputation in the sport.
Historic Achievement for New Zealand
Before Proctor’s win, the only New Zealander to have held the WBC Muay Thai title was Michelle Preston, who won the title in 2017. This recent achievement highlights a growing presence of New Zealand fighters on the international kickboxing stage. Proctor’s victory is not just a personal triumph but also a significant moment for the country’s sporting history.
The match unfolded with Proctor demonstrating skill and resilience against Bonner, who had previously held both the WBC Muay Thai World Super Middleweight and WMO Muay Thai World Light Heavyweight titles. Proctor’s ability to overcome an opponent with such extensive experience speaks volumes about his training and determination.
The win is expected to elevate Proctor’s profile further, both domestically and internationally. As he continues to build his career in kickboxing, the sports community will undoubtedly be watching closely to see how he manages this new level of achievement and competition.
Proctor’s journey exemplifies the hard work and dedication required to succeed in martial arts. With this title now under his belt, he will likely aim for even greater challenges in the future, inspiring a new generation of fighters from New Zealand and beyond.
