Tuxedo Aims for Triumph in Group 1 Proisir Plate at Ellerslie

The talented gelding Tuxedo is set to make his mark at the elite level this weekend as he competes in the Group 1 Proisir Plate over 1400 metres at Ellerslie. This race marks his first appearance in a weight-for-age event, following a successful 3-year-old season where he secured three wins from six starts, including notable victories in the Group 2 Waikato Guineas and the Group 3 Wellington Stakes.
Trained by the duo of Shaune Ritchie and Colm Murray, Tuxedo had an impressive showing last year, finishing as runner-up behind Damask Rose in the Karaka Millions 3YO. His latest performance came last month at Ruakākā, where he clinched victory in a 1400-metre race, signalling his readiness for the upcoming challenge.
Preparation and Expectations for Saturday
“We are pleased we got that run into him,” Ritchie remarked, highlighting the importance of his recent race. “The three weeks between races has worked out perfectly for him.” He expressed confidence in Tuxedo’s condition, noting that the lead-up race has set him up well for the Proisir Plate.
Having demonstrated strong capabilities at Ellerslie previously, Tuxedo’s experience includes a commendable second-place finish in the Karaka Million. Ritchie reiterated, “Having a run over 1400 metres means he is rock-hard ready for Saturday. Things are looking pretty rosy for him.” This optimism surrounding Tuxedo’s performance indicates the potential for a breakthrough at the Group 1 level.
As the race approaches, fans and experts alike will be watching closely to see how Tuxedo fares against formidable competition. With his strong track record and thorough preparation, the gelding embodies a promising prospect for both his trainers and supporters this Saturday.
