AJ Lam Signs with Clermont, Committed to Blues Until 2026
AJ Lam has officially signed with French Top 14 club ASM Clermont Auvergne and will leave the Blues following the conclusion of the 2026 Super Rugby season. The announcement confirms Lam’s commitment to the Blues for the upcoming campaign, where he is set to play a crucial role both on and off the field.
Lam debuted for the Blues in 2021 and has since established himself as one of the team’s most dynamic backs. Over his career with the Blues, he has accumulated 58 caps and played a pivotal role in the club’s successful run to the championship in 2024.
Reflecting on his decision to join Clermont, Lam expressed enthusiasm for this new chapter while emphasizing his current focus on the Blues. “This club has shaped me. The Blues have been my home, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved,” he said. “I’m grateful for the support from the coaches, staff, my teammates, and our fans. While I’m excited for the opportunity in France, my goal right now is to give everything to the Blues in 2026 and finish my time here in the best possible way.”
The Blues’ general manager of rugby, Murray Williams, highlighted Lam’s contributions to the club, stating, “AJ is a Blues man through and through. He’s grown with this club from the moment he arrived. Clermont are getting a special player, but we’re grateful that we have another full season with him. AJ is locked in for 2026, and we know he’ll give everything for the jersey.”
As Lam prepares for his final season with the Blues, fans and teammates alike are eager to see how he will help lead the team in their quest for further success before his departure to France. The announcement marks a significant shift in the landscape of Super Rugby, as Lam’s influence on the field will undoubtedly be missed once he transitions to his new role in Clermont.
