Alliance Group Announces Leadership Change Following Stake Acquisition
Alliance Group has announced a significant leadership change following its recent acquisition by Dawn Meats. The Irish company purchased a 65% stake in Alliance for $270 million, with the transaction finalized in mid-December 2023. In a statement issued yesterday, Alliance confirmed that Niall Browne, the chief executive of Dawn Meats, has been appointed as the acting chief executive of Alliance Group.
Willie Wiese, who has served as Alliance’s interim chief executive since the departure of David Surveyor, is stepping down to address personal matters and explore new opportunities. He has held various roles within the cooperative over the past eight years, including general manager of processing.
Tom Moran, chairman of Alliance Group, expressed gratitude for Wiese’s leadership during a challenging period for the company. “Willie’s decision to step down follows an intensive two-year reset of the entire business, a pleasing return to profitability, and the completion of a successful capital raise with Dawn Meats,” he stated. Moran praised Wiese for his commitment to the turnaround of the company, emphasizing the support received from farmer shareholders.
In his farewell remarks, Wiese reflected on his tenure, noting that he had achieved his goals for the company. “After much reflection over the holiday period, and in discussion with the board, I have decided it is the right time for new leadership to lead the next phase of growth,” he said. Wiese highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Alliance team and its farmer shareholders in positioning the company for future success.
Alliance Group reported a notable financial recovery last year, achieving a net profit before tax of $24.6 million on revenue of $2.1 billion for the year ending September 30, 2023. This marks a significant turnaround from the previous year, which saw a net loss of $120.8 million on $1.8 billion in revenue.
As part of the transition, Niall Browne mentioned that an integration process with Dawn Meats is currently underway. Senior representatives from both Ireland and the United Kingdom are visiting New Zealand to share insights and develop future plans. Browne expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from farmers, stating that the company is tracking ahead of budget with contributions from both current and returning shareholders.
This leadership transition marks a pivotal moment for Alliance Group as it seeks to build on its recent successes and navigate new challenges in the industry.
