Aspect Sun Sunscreens Face Recall Over SPF Labeling Issues
Two sunscreens from the brand Aspect Sun are being recalled due to concerns that their sun protection factor (SPF) levels may not align with the claims indicated on their labels. This announcement follows independent lab testing which raised alarms about the accuracy of the SPF ratings for these products.
Product Safety New Zealand confirmed that preliminary results suggest the SPF protection for the affected items is “unlikely to meet the labelled SPF rating.” Such discrepancies pose health risks, as consumers relying on these products for sun protection could face increased chances of sunburn and a reduced long-term efficacy in preventing skin cancer.
Details of the Recall
The recall specifically targets two products:
– Aspect Sun Physical Sun Protection SPF50+ (Product Code: SN-075-054) with batch numbers A2450, A2190, A1958, and A1492.
– Aspect Sun Tinted Physical SPF50+ (Product Code: SN-075-057) with batch numbers A2451, A2191, A1976, and A1629.
Consumers who have purchased these sunscreens are urged to stop using them immediately. As part of the recall process, refunds will be provided to customers who present proof of purchase.
These products were available across New Zealand from November 2022 until August 2025, distributed through a variety of retailers nationwide. The potential risk associated with these sunscreens has prompted swift action from health officials to protect public safety.
Health Implications
The revelation about the SPF discrepancies highlights the importance of reliable sun protection. Sunscreens play a crucial role in safeguarding against harmful UV rays, which can lead to skin damage and increase the risk of skin cancer.
By ensuring accurate labeling, consumers can make informed choices regarding their sun safety. The findings from Product Safety New Zealand serve as a reminder of the need for rigorous testing and verification of personal care products.
Individuals affected by this recall can find additional information and details on how to obtain refunds through official communication channels provided by Product Safety New Zealand and retailers. This situation underscores the ongoing commitment to consumer safety and the importance of transparency in labeling practices.
