A vibrant night of boxing unfolded at Hurto Gym in Arrowtown, New Zealand, featuring a total of 13 bouts sanctioned by the World Boxing Council (WBC). Fighters travelled from various regions, including Taranaki, Wellington, Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin, Balclutha, Invercargill, and Wanaka, showcasing the event’s broad appeal and competitive spirit.

Five athletes representing Hurto Gym emerged victorious in their matches. Among them was Marcel Main, aged 20, who claimed the main event title. His performance earned him a $250 gift card from Stirling Sports Queenstown for the most spectacular technique of the evening. Another standout was Milo Skipper, who received a $500 award for fighter of the night, demonstrating impressive skills despite having only two previous fights under his belt.

Coach Horrocks praised the efforts of his fighters, noting that Federico O’Connor, Robert Straton, Connor Bourne, and George Warswick all engaged in tightly contested bouts. O’Connor, just 19 years old, accepted his fight on short notice and performed admirably, competing above his weight class. “They fought hard to the end,” Horrocks remarked, highlighting the dedication of all his athletes.

The event was supported by various sponsors, particularly Stirling Sports Queenstown and the resort’s Crew Room, which livestreamed the fights for a wider audience. Additional contributions came from Shipleys Audiovisual and local builders Owen Building.

Earlier in the day, Hurto Gym also hosted a WBC officiating seminar, which Horrocks described as a “great success.” The seminar attracted coaches, fighters, and boxing enthusiasts, further enhancing the community’s involvement in the sport.

This night of boxing not only showcased the talents of local fighters but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and excitement within the boxing community, reinforcing Arrowtown’s status as a vibrant hub for the sport.
