Police Investigate Serious Injuries of Man Found in Queenstown
A man was discovered with serious injuries at an intersection near Queenstown on the evening of October 18, 2023, prompting an investigation by local police. Officers were alerted to the incident at approximately 18:15 when they found the man at the junction of Moke Lake Rd and Glenorchy-Queenstown Rd. The circumstances surrounding his injuries remain unclear, leading police to label them as “unexplained.”
Emergency medical services were notified of the situation at 18:13. According to a spokesperson for Hato Hone St John, an ambulance, helicopter, and rapid response vehicle were dispatched to the scene. Once assessed, the injured man was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital in serious condition. Following initial treatment, he has since been transferred to Christchurch for further care.
In a statement released this morning, police indicated that their inquiries are focusing on whether the man sustained his injuries at a different location prior to being found. Increased police presence will be noted in the area as investigations continue.
The intersection where the incident occurred was temporarily closed while emergency services managed the situation, affecting traffic flow in the vicinity. Officers are appealing for any witnesses or individuals with information to come forward as they seek clarity on the events leading to the man’s injuries.
