Police are investigating the unusual death of 37-year-old Teishallia Te Paea, whose body was discovered at her home on October 29, 2023, in Kotuku Street, Camberley. Authorities believe that she may have died some time before her body was found, prompting a homicide investigation dubbed Operation Knell.

As part of their ongoing inquiry, police are appealing for information from the community, particularly from four individuals who visited Te Paea’s residence between August and September 2023. Investigators seek to speak with three males who were present during that time, as well as an unidentified individual who arrived in a dark-coloured van.

Detective Inspector Martin James emphasized the importance of community assistance in the investigation. “We believe there are people in the community who know what happened to Teishallia and who was involved,” he stated. James expressed a commitment to support Te Paea’s family as they mourn their loss.

The police’s Behavioural Science Unit (BSU) conducted a preliminary analysis of the circumstances surrounding the homicide. It has been described as a “unique” crime, suggesting that the offender may have acted in a distinct manner. According to police, the perpetrator likely knew Te Paea personally, indicating that the act was targeted.

Authorities noted that the individual responsible may have changed their behavior following the incident. They suspect the offender could be avoiding scrutiny and using family and friends as a shield against questions regarding their whereabouts during the investigation. The BSU’s analysis pointed to an attempt by the offender to distance themselves from Te Paea, as well as a notable awareness of the property where the crime occurred.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact them via 105, quoting file number 251029/3817. Additionally, tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 0800 555 111. The investigation remains active as authorities continue to gather evidence and seek justice for Te Paea and her family.
