Thieves Steal Over $5,000 in Electronics from Oamaru Store
A break-in at the Spark Store on Thames Street in Oamaru resulted in the theft of electronic devices valued at over $5,000. The incident occurred around 3:15 AM on September 29, 2023, prompting a swift response from the New Zealand Police.
According to Sergeant Stu Dowling of the Oamaru Police, three individuals were involved in the incident. They smashed the glass front of the store to gain access and proceeded to steal various electronic items. The police later discovered that the vehicle used in the crime had been reported stolen from Gore the previous day.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found broken glass scattered across the footpath outside the store. Sergeant Dowling noted that inquiries were ongoing, with investigators reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses in the vicinity.
The Oamaru community is now left to grapple with the ramifications of this brazen act of theft. The local police encourage anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. They are particularly interested in any observations made around the time of the break-in that could assist in apprehending those responsible.
As investigations continue, the Spark Store is working to recover from the damage and loss incurred during the break-in. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about retail security and the need for increased vigilance in the area.
