Thriving Community Spirit Shines at Mangawhai Santa Parade
The annual Mangawhai Santa Parade took place on December 14, 2023, attracting large crowds eager to celebrate the festive season. More than 30 floats participated in the event, showcasing local creativity and community spirit. The parade concluded at the Mangawhai Activity Zone, where the winners were announced: Mangawhai Players secured first place, followed by the Mangawhai Kaiwaka Scout Troop in second, and Four Little Birds in third.
As the parade meandered through the streets, the atmosphere was filled with vibrant decorations and joyful cheers. Children delighted in the warm weather, playfully spraying the crowd with water pistols. The event not only provided entertainment but also fostered a sense of togetherness among community members.
At the conclusion of the parade, John Phillis and Keri Cullen, representatives of the organizing committee, expressed their gratitude to everyone who contributed to the event’s success. “Congratulations to all the participants—your creativity and spirit made the 7th MAZ Santa Parade and Concert the biggest and best yet,” Phillis stated.
The parade relied on the support of approximately 100 volunteers, local businesses, and community groups, all working together to bring the event to life. The entertainment lineup featured traditional kapa haka performances, along with engaging rap and hip-hop demonstrations, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.
In addition to the performances, attendees had the opportunity to engage in face painting and hair braiding. The highlight for many children was the arrival of Santa Claus, who distributed around 300 presents, adding to the festive spirit of the day.
Organizers also acknowledged the vital role of sponsors, particularly New World, for their contributions to the prizes and overall support. The success of the Mangawhai Santa Parade highlights the importance of community involvement and the enduring spirit of celebration during the holiday season.
As the event wrapped up, local residents reflected on the fun and excitement of the day, looking forward to making next year’s parade even more spectacular.
