Witnesses reported that two individuals entered the premises, brandishing weapons and demanding money from the cash register. The employee, who has not been publicly identified, attempted to intervene during the robbery, resulting in the injury.
The New Zealand Police were notified shortly after the incident, and officers arrived on the scene to investigate. A spokesperson confirmed that the worker was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the store to identify the suspects. Preliminary descriptions indicate that the perpetrators were wearing dark clothing and masks to conceal their identities.
Police have urged anyone with information regarding the robbery to come forward. They have also increased patrols in the area to ensure the safety of local residents and businesses.
Community Response
Local business owners expressed concern over the rising trend of violent crimes in the area. Many have taken additional security measures, such as installing cameras and improving lighting outside their establishments.
“This incident has shaken our community,” said a nearby shop owner. “We all want to feel safe while working and operating our businesses.”
The police have reassured the public that they are committed to resolving the case swiftly and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
