Blind Kunekune Pig, Woody, Finds New Home in Dunedin

A blind Kunekune pig named Woody has found a new home on a lifestyle block near Dunedin, following a heartwarming rescue by animal lovers Lisa Lindsay and her partner, Nathan Rotch. The couple came across Woody’s story on Facebook, where she was advertised for adoption. Intrigued by the prospect of giving Woody a new lease on life, they decided to welcome her into their home.
Woody, who was previously overweight, now enjoys the spacious 2-hectare property alongside another rescued animal, Huni the goat. The two have quickly formed a bond, often seen lounging on the doorstep together as they eagerly await dinner time and affectionate attention from their new caregivers. Lindsay noted that at first, they were unaware of Woody’s blindness, attributing it to her size.
With dedication and care, Woody has begun a transformation. Lindsay and Rotch provided Woody with a healthier diet and regular exercise, allowing her to lose weight and become more active. The couple has taken it upon themselves to ensure that Woody’s living conditions are not only comfortable but also enriching.
The journey of Woody’s rescue highlights a growing trend among animal lovers in New Zealand, where individuals are increasingly stepping up to adopt and care for animals in need. Lindsay and Rotch’s commitment to providing a safe and loving environment for Woody is a testament to the positive impact of rescue efforts.
As Woody settles into her new home, she serves as a reminder of the joy that comes from giving animals a second chance. The couple continues to share their experiences on social media, encouraging others to consider adopting pets in need, particularly those with special requirements.
