Deep Brand Recalls Frozen Vegetables Over Salmonella Risk
Deep Brand has initiated a recall of its frozen beans and vegetables due to potential salmonella contamination. The affected products include Sprouted Mat, Sprouted Moong, and Surti Undhiu Mix. Samples tested positive for salmonella, prompting the recall to ensure consumer safety.
According to Vincent Arbuckle, the deputy director-general of New Zealand Food Safety, salmonellosis can lead to serious health issues. He emphasized, “It is important that people do not eat these products.” The recall affects all batches and dates of the listed products, making it crucial for consumers to check their freezers.
Details of the Recall
The recall comes after routine testing revealed the presence of salmonella in the frozen vegetable products. Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause gastrointestinal illness, and it may be particularly dangerous for vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly. Symptoms of salmonellosis can include fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps.
Deep Brand is advising consumers to return any affected items to the place of purchase for a full refund. Retailers are also urged to remove the products from their shelves to prevent further distribution.
Food safety officials are working diligently to investigate the source of the contamination. In the meantime, individuals who have purchased Sprouted Mat, Sprouted Moong, or Surti Undhiu Mix are advised to discard them immediately.
Consumer Awareness and Safety
As the recall unfolds, it highlights the importance of food safety and consumer awareness. The New Zealand Food Safety authority encourages individuals to stay informed about product recalls and to report any adverse reactions after consuming the affected products.
This incident serves as a reminder for consumers to regularly check their food supplies and remain vigilant about food safety practices. In light of this recall, it is essential to ensure that food products are safe for consumption, particularly frozen items that may have long shelf lives.
