EB Games Plans to Close All Stores in New Zealand
EB Games has announced a proposal to close down its entire operations in New Zealand, which would result in the closure of all its stores across the country. This information comes from a letter sent to employees and obtained by RNZ. The proposed plan, if finalized, would lead to the disestablishment of all roles within the company in New Zealand.
In a message to staff, Shane Stockwell, managing director of EB Games, emphasized that the proposal is not yet final. He stated, “This proposal is not final, and no decision will be made until we have completed a full consultation process in good faith with affected team members.” This statement highlights the company’s intention to engage with employees before making any definitive decisions.
The proposal includes the closure of all remaining EB Games stores as well as the New Zealand Distribution Centre. If the plan goes ahead, it would mark the end of EB Games’ presence in the country, impacting numerous employees and the gaming retail landscape in New Zealand.
As the process unfolds, the company has pledged to keep communication open with its employees, ensuring that they are informed throughout the consultation period. Stakeholders and customers alike will be watching closely, as this move could have far-reaching implications for the gaming community in New Zealand.
The consultation process is expected to allow employees to voice their concerns and feedback regarding the proposed closures. This engagement is crucial, as it may influence the final decision regarding the future of EB Games in New Zealand.
The gaming industry has seen numerous shifts in recent years, with many retailers adapting to changing consumer preferences and the rise of digital platforms. The potential closure of EB Games stores is a reflection of these broader trends, as physical retail locations face increasing challenges.
Should the closures proceed, the repercussions will extend beyond just the employees affected, potentially impacting consumers and local economies as well. As EB Games navigates this proposal, its future in New Zealand remains uncertain, and the consultation process will be key to determining the outcome.
