Witnesses reported that flames engulfed parts of the three-storey structure, sending smoke billowing into the air. The rapid spread of the fire forced many guests to evacuate the building, taking to the street to ensure their safety. Some occupants from nearby hotels also fled their premises as a precautionary measure.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand dispatched multiple units to the scene. Firefighters worked diligently for approximately 20 minutes to contain the flames and prevent further damage. Their efforts were crucial in protecting adjacent properties from potential fire spread.
