Lee Tamahori Remembered: Family Celebrates Life of Kiwi Director
The family of renowned Kiwi director Lee Tamahori gathered to celebrate his life and bid farewell following his passing on October 13, 2023, at the age of 75. Tamahori died peacefully at his home in Auckland, surrounded by loved ones. Today, the Tamahori family is commemorating his legacy at Te Mahurehure Marae, a significant cultural site in Auckland. Mia Henry-Teirney, a spokesperson for the family, shared insights into Tamahori’s character, highlighting that he remained “fiercely intelligent, humorous, caring, and loving” until the end of his life. Despite facing the challenges of Parkinson’s disease in his later years, he approached these difficulties with the same quiet strength that defined his career.
Henry-Teirney expressed that family members will cherish the memories of Tamahori’s spirit and resilience. “Even in his last days, he demonstrated remarkable strength and a sense of humor that everyone will remember fondly,” she noted.
