Napier Unveils Creative Youth Hub to Empower Local Teens
Napier is set to launch the Ngā Toi Creative Hawke’s Bay Youth Hub, a dedicated space for young people designed to foster creativity, connection, and community involvement. This initiative comes in response to persistent requests from local youth to the Napier City Council for a safe and engaging environment to socialise, study, and participate in various activities.
The hub will be located in the heart of Napier, providing a central location where young residents can gather. According to Myah Houthuijzen, the newly appointed youth space leader, the project has generated considerable excitement. Houthuijzen expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “It is rare to have so much creative freedom.”
The creation of this space reflects a growing recognition of the need for dedicated areas catering specifically to youth. Over the past few years, young people in Napier have voiced their desire for a venue that supports their interests and activities. The council’s decision to establish the hub marks a significant step towards addressing these concerns.
In addition to offering a safe place to hang out, the Ngā Toi Creative Hawke’s Bay Youth Hub will feature spaces for artistic expression, study areas, and opportunities for skill development. These resources are intended to help foster a sense of belonging and community among young people in the region.
The hub is expected to open in the coming months, with further details regarding its programs and services to be announced. The initiative highlights the importance of youth engagement in local governance and community planning. By involving young people in the design and development of this space, the Napier City Council aims to ensure it meets their needs and aspirations.
As the project progresses, the council will continue to gather input from the community. This collaborative approach aims to create an inclusive environment where every young person feels welcome and valued. The Ngā Toi Creative Hawke’s Bay Youth Hub is poised to become a pivotal resource for the youth of Napier, providing them with the tools and support necessary to thrive.
