Over 130 Members of Intercepted Flotilla Enter Jordan Safely

More than 130 individuals, including several from New Zealand, have safely entered Jordan after being part of a flotilla intercepted while attempting to reach Gaza. According to Jordan’s state news agency, these individuals crossed the border at the King Hussein Bridge following arrangements made to ensure their safe passage. The group reportedly consists of individuals from various countries, including Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Among those impacted is Samuel Leason, one of three New Zealanders previously detained by Israeli authorities. Leason’s father informed RNZ that the New Zealanders were among the last to be released from detention. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand acknowledged they could not address non-urgent inquiries after hours, committing to respond by the morning of October 4, 2023.
The flotilla, which had garnered significant international attention, aimed to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. Its interception by Israeli forces raised questions about the ongoing tensions in the region and the challenges faced by those attempting to provide assistance.
Jordan has played a crucial role in facilitating the safe return of these individuals, reflecting its position as a neighboring country that often intervenes in regional humanitarian efforts. The entry of these individuals into Jordan is a significant step in their journey, allowing them a reprieve after a tumultuous experience.
As the situation unfolds, further updates will likely emerge regarding the individuals still in detention and the broader implications for international humanitarian missions in the area.
