Police and Family Seek Help in Search for Missing Teacher

Authorities are actively searching for Jayleb-Che Dean, a 36-year-old teacher from Tokoroa, who has been missing since October 3, 2023. Dean was last seen at the popular Hot and Cold swimming area in Waiotapu, located south of Rotorua. Concern for his wellbeing has prompted police and family members to reach out for public assistance in locating him.
Details of the Disappearance
According to local law enforcement, Dean was reported missing after he failed to return home last Tuesday. His family, particularly his sister Alia Cowley, has expressed deep concern, stating that the last confirmed sighting of him was at the Hot and Cold swimming area, a well-known spot where a hot spring meets a cold freshwater stream.
Cowley emphasized the importance of community involvement in the search, urging anyone who may have seen Dean or has any information about his whereabouts to come forward. “We are extremely worried about Jayleb,” she said. “We just want to know that he is safe.”
Community Response and Ongoing Search Efforts
The local police have organized search operations in the area, utilizing both ground and aerial resources to cover as much territory as possible. Officers are canvassing the vicinity and interviewing potential witnesses to gather more information. The police are also monitoring social media platforms for any leads that might assist in locating Dean.
In addition to the police efforts, community members and friends of Dean have mobilized, forming search parties to cover the surrounding areas. The family appreciates the outpouring of support from the community during this difficult time.
As the search continues, the police have issued a call for anyone who might have been in the area around the time Dean went missing to contact them with any relevant information. They can be reached at the local police station, and all tips will be treated with confidentiality.
Dean’s family remains hopeful for a positive outcome and continues to urge everyone to keep an eye out for him. With the community’s support and the ongoing police investigation, they remain determined to find him safe.
